Titans trading QB Malik Willis to Packers in exchange for seventh-round pick

Once heralded as a potential cornerstone for the Tennessee Titans, Malik Willis is now exiting Nashville. The Titans are sending Willis to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, as reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Monday.

With Will Levis firmly established as the Titans’ starter and Mason Rudolph—an offseason free-agent acquisition who has delivered consistent performances in training camp—secure in the backup role, Willis finds himself seeking a new opportunity to bolster the Packers’ quarterback depth.

Currently, the Packers have Jordan Love supported by 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford and 2024 seventh-round pick Michael Pratt. Neither Clifford nor Pratt impressed during the preseason, positioning Willis as a more experienced alternative.

In a 2022 draft class that lacked significant quarterback talent, some projected Willis as a potential first-round selection. However, he slipped to the third round, becoming the third quarterback chosen. Willis, along with Kenny Pickett (first round, No. 20 overall) and Desmond Ridder (No. 74), now find themselves with different teams. Meanwhile, other notable quarterbacks from that draft, such as Matt Corral and Sam Howell, have also moved on. Interestingly, the last pick of that draft, Brock Purdy, remains with the San Francisco 49ers.

Willis has appeared in 11 games with three starts over two seasons—all starts coming in his rookie year, where he posted a 1-2 record. He has completed 53% of his 66 pass attempts for 350 yards, yet is still seeking his first NFL touchdown pass. A product of Liberty University, Willis has demonstrated potential with his mobility, rushing for 144 yards (averaging 4.5 yards per carry) and scoring one touchdown.

At just 25 years old, Willis may find a new lease on his NFL career under Matt LaFleur’s guidance in Green Bay. While his tenure in Tennessee has come to an end, Willis could slightly enhance the Packers’ quarterback roster behind Love as he seeks to refine his game.
